G7 | Creating Superheroes & Villains Based on Elements

October 01, 2020

There are many ways superheroes and villains get their powers in the comics, on television and in movies. Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider. The Incredible Hulk was exposed to heavy doses of gamma radiation. Superman’s weakness is Kryptonite, a fictional material that emits radiation to weaken the Man of Steel. Radiation is clearly the theme among this small sample of heroes.

Grade 7 Science students were asked to create their own superhero or villain origin story, focusing on the periodic table. Each student was assigned an element from the periodic table to study and describe.

Next, they created their own superhero or villain, with strengths and weaknesses all based on the properties and characteristics of their element. Enjoy the photos below as students work on their assignment in class.
