The Antwerp International School (AIS) is a non-profit association operated by a dedicated Faculty, a qualified Headmaster and a Board of Directors. This successful and highly-regarded school was founded in 1967 to provide education in Elementary School, Middle and High Schools, as well as preparation for post-secondary studies, for students from English-speaking and international communities in the greater Antwerp area.
AIS was the first school in the world to be accredited four times by CIS. It has also been fully accredited by NEASC for over 20 years.
Antwerp International School is proud to have a strong history of growth and academic success. The following timeline outlines the progress we have made since opening our doors in 1967:
1967—AIS opens with 65 students in the Kasteel
1971—First class graduates AIS
AIS receives ECIS Accreditation
1975—Over 300 students enrolled at AIS
Bicentennial Building constructed
1976—AIS began offering the International Baccalaureate Program
1991—Major building program completed:
§ Construction of the Fine Arts Centre, library, kitchen and cafeteria
§ Construction of eleven secondary classrooms, twenty elementary classrooms and two computer labs
§ Complete renovation of three science labs
1987—Gained NEASC accreditation
HighSchool Buildingconstructed with Library and Computer Room
1989—Elementary School constructed with Library expansion and another Computer Room
1991—Over 500 students enrolled at AIS
` Fine Arts Centre constructed
1996—Library cataloguing system computerized Yearbook room added to the library
2001—Middle and High School Building construction completed
2003—Gymnasium and Health Centre facility completed
2009—Campus-wide structural improvements
§ Renovation of cafeteria and addition of outdoor seating areas
§ Upgrades to the Fine Arts Centre
§ Lockers replaced in the high school
