G10 Duke Students Complete Adventurous Journey in the Ardennes

April 01, 2022

Congratulations to our Grade 10 Bronze students for completing their Qualifying Adventurous Journey in the Ardennes for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award! Please take a moment to watch the video of their scenic hike.

The students prepared for last weekend’s Adventurous Journey for months, plotting a hiking route of approximately 20 kilometres for each of the two days (carrying full packs the entire way), calculating the times they would reach each checkpoint set by their leader, planning meals they cook for themselves (at least one hot meal per day is required), and developing an aim for their hike.

Despite a frosty beginning to Day 2, students maintained very high spirits and motivation,  working together extremely well, and arriving at their final location over an hour early.  The students’ teamwork, positivity, and enthusiasm to step out of their comfort zones truly embody the spirit of the award. Congratulations to Devanshi, Kelsey, Krishma, Arav, Harsh, Parshva, and Rushil!

While they were on their Adventurous Journey, the Grade 9 Bronze students (photos below) participated in a training weekend, where they learned wilderness survival skills, including building shelters and fires. Students also prepared their own meals, hiked several kilometres with full packs, chopped a LOT of wood, and rounded it out with some games of American football and Uno.
