Lab Assistant (19 hours)

Antwerp International School (AIS) is seeking a skilled and proactive Lab Assistant to join our Secondary School. We are looking for a professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is dedicated to fostering a safe, efficient, and engaging learning space for our science and STEM students.

THE ROLE

As a Lab Assistant, you will support the effective and safe operation of our laboratories by preparing, maintaining, and organizing essential materials and equipment for practical lessons. You will work independently to develop lab setups while maintaining positive contact with both teachers and pupils.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Practical Support: Consult with staff on requirements for practical activities, trial experiments, and prepare/amend specific resources.
  • Lab Management: Deliver and collect equipment, refurbish labs between classes, and ensure all materials are cleared and cleaned safely.
  • Safety & Compliance: Manage the storage, labeling, and systematic documentation of all chemicals in full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Waste & Inspection: Dispose of waste materials safely and prepare laboratories for internal and external safety inspections.
  • Inventory & Procurement: Take regular inventories of science and STEM equipment, manage purchasing (including books and software), and verify deliveries and invoices.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Laboratory technician qualifications or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar field.
  • Skills: Excellent IT skills and proficiency in both Dutch and English.
  • Attributes: Ability to assist staff and students during practical lessons and a proactive approach to maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment.
