STEM Coding Class | Animating games

October 21, 2020

Coding has become the language of the world because of new technology that’s dependent upon it, like the apps on all of our mobile devices. At AIS, an introduction to coding was taught to Grades 4 to 8 in October. Coding is considered an important subject in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM.

the hour of code: INSPIRING SUCCESSFUL FUTURES

Students participated in a class called “The Hour of Code” taught by the company Future Brain. They were assigned the task of creating animation for a game.

“We are just introducing the coding and knowledge of how to do the coding,” Swati Khambete, the director of Future Brain explained. “We are doing some animation and with that animation, we are making one game and with that game we are going to give some concepts of Python language.” It also required them to learn about block-based programming coding.

STEM LEARNING: Basic Concepts of Coding

Grades 4 and 5 learned the basic concepts of coding: for-loops, concepts, sequencing and what computer programming is. Along with that, Grades 6, 7 and 8 learned some advanced concepts: objects, methods and lists.

“Just with the help of a game, we are introducing how important coding is in the real world,” Swati said. “We realized that to be prepared for the demands of the 21st century – and to take advantage of its opportunities – it is essential that most of our students should learn computer programming skills, no matter what field of work they want to pursue.”
