AIS Receives IB Primary Years Programme Accreditation

June 12, 2017

Antwerp International School (AIS), an IB World School serving both international and local communities in Flanders, has been authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

“We are extremely proud of the fact that we are currently the only school in Belgium authorised to offer the full continuum of International Baccalaureate curricula,” says Andreas Koini, Head of School. “This marks a milestone in our pledge to remain on the forefront of 21st century pedagogy and to provide an outstanding learning environment for our students.”AIS received the official authorisation on 22 June 2017. It is the school’s second IB accomplishment this year, after its MYP authorisation in January. AIS has been offering the IB Diploma since 1975. The visit happened in March 2017, but the PYP has been in place since 2013, with Primary School Principal Kaye Gustafson and PYP Co-Coordinator Evita Flock working hard to implement the new curriculum.

The PYP is the first of the three IB Programmes, paving the way towards the other programmes. Focusing on students from 3 to 12 years old, the PYP prepares students to become lifelong learners, sparking their curiosity about the world around them. The programme teaches children through six interrelated and transdisciplinary themes, developing their academic, social and emotional well-being.
