Children are placed in a grade according to their age. To enter a grade the child must be the age given below by 1 October.

|Grade 12*||students to be 17|
In exceptional circumstances, a student may be placed in a grade other than that of his/her same age peers. In these cases, the following factors are taken into consideration:
- previous school experience
- academic achievement
- social/emotional development
Parents must provide report cards that show successful completion fo three previous years of schooling (where applicable).
A student may be required to take an admissions test or be evaluated for acceptance.
Children requiring learning support may be accepted if it is agreed that AIS can accommodate them successfully.
