About
We are an international school that leads by example across every aspect of our teaching and learning provision. Through academic excellence, a caring community, strong leadership and supportive parent partnerships, we provide a world-class education, that supports every child in their development, their wellbeing and their aspirations.
The Antwerp International School (AIS), which is a non-profit association (vzw), was founded in 1967 and is located in the leafy, residential suburb of Ekeren, only ten kilometers north of the center of Antwerp in Flanders, Belgium. AIS is a non-profit association (vzw) which offers a student-centered, comprehensive English language education (IPC, IGCSE, IB Diploma Programme) to children from the age of 2½ years to 18 years old, where the development of critical thinking skills is emphasized. Enrichment at AIS includes a wide variety of extra-curricular activities in the arts, theater, sports and many more. Modern languages are introduced in Pre-School with Dutch language and culture classes. A choice of either French or Dutch is offered from the beginning of Grade 3. Our student body consists of 450 students from over 40 nationalities. A holistic and personalized approach in a small class setting allows students to build a friendly, yet respectful relationship with their teachers and with their peers.
Upon graduation, over 95% of AIS students enter directly into a college or university in Belgium, the U.K., the Netherlands, the U.S., and many other countries. AIS is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) as well as the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC); and was the first school to be accredited by CIS and the first one in the world to receive five consecutive accreditations from this organization. Furthermore, as an advocate of 21st Century Learning and in order to provide the best learning environment for our students, AIS has introduced a one-to-one Apple laptop program.
In addition to academic excellence, AIS also serves as a focus where students, families and teachers can socialize and embrace the extensive cultural experiences available to the school community. AIS is a school people call “home away from home”.
We hope that by exploring the pages of this website you will get a sense of who we are and how the AIS experience can shape the future success of your son or daughter.
