Head of School's Welcome
Welcome to the Antwerp International School. We are a school that is grounded in a long tradition of delivering outstanding education to children of the international community of Flanders and South Holland. Founded in 1967, AIS was one of the first to adapt the curriculum of the forward thinking, highly regarded International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Furthermore, we are the only school in the world that has been accredited by the Council of International Schools for 5 times consecutively.
With 400 students, 90 staff and a closely knit community we are a small school. However, a walk around our extensive campus will tell you of the holistic philosophies of educational reformists such as John Dewey, Maria Montessori and Kurt Hahn.
Our school buildings are testament of the rigorous, humanistic, academic foundation provided to students in our care. We believe that education does not only teach skills and knowledge but also adds a third dimension of conceptual understanding to it. Co-curricular programmes offered in our Fine Arts and Sports Centres support our children on their path to self-confident personalities whilst service learning opportunities and pastoral care systems widen their intellectual horizon to develop into reflective, principled and caring young adults. We have a long history of excellent academic results and our students attend renowned universities worldwide.
AIS is located in Ekeren, around 8 km northeast of the Antwerp City Center. Ekeren, its surrounding neighborhoods of Brasschaat and Kapellen, as well as the city centre of Antwerp provide some of the nicest living areas in Belgium. Our students benefit from a vibrant city with all its cultural offerings, insight into one of the biggest commercial ports in the world, vast woodlands nearby and access to some of the nicest North Sea beaches less than an hour away.
During the 2017-2018 school year, we will celebrate our 50th anniversary. Our school’s values of Accountability, Respect, Consideration and Honesty (ARCH) have shaped these past 50 years and will remain strong in the future. We continue to commit ourselves to transform our international school into an intercultural community welcoming all students who would like to benefit from our holistic educational programmes and empowering them to becoming successful members of an ever faster changing society.
I warmly invite you to browse through our website, visit our campus and join our community.
I look forward to seeing you at AIS soon.
